Greetings Porter United Methodist Church,
I pray for each of you that you are well and finding ways to take care of yourselves. Please know that I am available if you need me. Ephesians 5:2 says, “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” We are called to follow Christ in everything we say and do. With the current way we are living our lives, how can we live a life filled with love?
Spend time learning about God’s story: read, listen, or watch the Bible.
Spend time talking and listening to God: time in prayer.
Spend time talking and listening to your family.
Spend time writing and mailing a card to someone who needs encouragement.
Spend time resting.
There is much we can do, even from our homes, to “live as people of light.” My prayer is that in these different times we can be filled with joy and hope.
Governor Eric Holcomb issued an executive order to stay home which went into effect Tuesday, March 24th at 11:59 p.m. A public health emergency has been declared as a result of the global pandemic and the spread of COVID-19 in the state of Indiana. In response to this health crisis, social distancing and the suspension of normal Sunday worship gatherings and other group gatherings have been implemented. In response, starting Wednesday, March 25th, office staff will be working from home and all activity from the church building is suspended. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the church office (219) 926-1586 or contact Pastor Liz. We will be checking the phone messages and returning calls. The church is NOT the building, it is the people!
We will continue to “meet” virtually on Sundays at 10:15. If you need assistance getting connected to online worship, please let the church know. I will also share a mid-week thought (to be shared online) to help all of us stay focused on the purpose God has called us to: Love God and Love Others.
We need to continue to be people of extravagant generosity. Remember your tithe/offering is not a subscription to the church, but a deep part of our spiritual development. Please continue to give your tithe/offering. I would like to urge you to continue to be faithful in your giving either by mail (100 E. Beam St. Porter IN 46304) or online giving. You can go to to get more information.
God is faithful and will see us through this storm. I lift each one of you up prayer! “Be joyful in hope, patient in trouble, and keep on praying” Romans 12:12.
God’s Love and Peace to You,
During Inclement Weather:
Mondays - Thursdays
Just remember, if Duneland area schools are closed, the church office will also be closed that day. This includes all scheduled events at the church.
We will also post the closing on the homepage of our website and on our Facebook page (links below).
For weekend events, including Sunday services, check the homepage of our website and/or our Facebook page if you believe the church will be closed. See links below.
**For Sunday services, we try to call members using our prayer chain informing them of the cancellation.**
We are handicapped accessible through the use of chair lifts to the sanctuary and downstairs fellowship hall.
