Sunday School Update

For the next several weeks taking us into March, the Sunday School children will continue learning about The Special Ingredients of a Godly Life which can be found in the Bible.  These ingredients combine in our hearts to make us disciples of Christ: TRUST – a godly life begins with trusting God, OBEDIENCE – a godly person listens to God and obeys God, MERCY – a godly person shows mercy to those who don’t deserve it, WISDOM – a godly person seeks wisdom, CONFIDENCE – a godly person stands for what is right, BOLDNESS – a godly person reaches out for Jesus, FAITH – a godly person keeps believing God no matter what, and finally, LOVE – a godly person loves Jesus and loves others.

A new element has also been added – a Prayer Box.  Each week, the children will have an opportunity to write down or draw a joy or concern that they want to tell God about.  No names are put on these papers.  The children will put them inside the Prayer Box which will be taken into worship.  The box with the children’s prayer requests will be presented during our time of prayer during the service.  Following church service, Pastor Liz will set the prayer requests aflame so the smoke drifts heavenly up to God.

Sunday School begins at 9 a.m.  Each child is encouraged to bring a brother, sister or a friend with them.

Children’s Missions

We spoke about having the children more actively involved in the mission project for the children (please check out the Children’s Ministry page).

As you can see many opportunities are coming for us to do God’s work in our community and share God’s story with others.  What is your plan for making disciples in 2020?

If you have any questions about our Missions Team, please contact either our Missions Chair Judy Reales or Pastor Liz at (219) 926-1586 or email porterumchurch@gmail.com.

TUESDAY, MAY 28th @ 6 p.m.

VNA PHOENIX CENTER

The children of Porter United Methodist Church will be joining with the adults of the congregation for their first quarterly mission focus of 2020. The special loose coin offering the children collect during "Passing the Peace" will help support the VNA Phoenix Center, an organization for children and young adults who have lost someone in their lives who need help processing their grief.

As always, thank you for helping the children of our church realize that even though they're kids, they can still help others!

2020 Children’s Missions

Here are some of the suggested mission outreaches for 2020 the children of our church can be involved with:

  • Law Enforcement dinner – the children will meet, prepare a meal, and deliver it to our local Police and Fire Departments.

  • Cleaning Hawthorne Park

  • Animal Shelter

  • Nursing Home

As you can see many opportunities are coming for us to do God’s work in our community and share God’s story with others.  What is your plan for making disciples in 2020?

Camp

Do you know a kid who is ready for a week of fun?  Sign them up for church camp this summer!!  There are camps designed for kids in grades K-12. Children will  participate in action packed adventures including swimming, a climbing wall, archery, a slip ‘n side, and horseback riding.   The camps are not only fun but most importantly, there is a deep focus on Christ through an amazing spiritual program including small groups, outdoor worship, and feature activities.  If you would like more information, please visit the website https://impact2818.org/

VBS 2019: "BigHeart Farms" a BIG Success!

BigHeart Farms Vacation Bible School was a great experience for all of the "Sprouts" who joined us the first week of June to learn about the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, our theme verse for the week: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Thanks for Making 2018 VBS a Success!

Rolling River Rampage Vacation Bible School was an awesome experience for the 26 who attended in early June.  The church was transformed into an awesome campground surrounding.  The success of Vacation Bible School is due to the many volunteers who gave freely of their time and talents to share the message from Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”  Our young rafters enjoyed their adventure as they experienced the ride of a lifetime with God! Along the river, they discovered that life with God is an adventure full of wonder and surprise, and that they can trust God to be with them through anything. Through music, science experiments, creative crafts, fun recreation, and memorable Bible stories the kids learned that God is always with them as they ride the rapids of amazing grace!   On the last evening, we invited parents to a closing program.  We had a wonderful crowd of parents who stayed afterward for ice cream and brownies.
