Children's Ministries

Since Sunday Bible school started in September, we have been learning the stories of God’s creation from the Book of Genesis.  The creation events were reported over six days plus a day of rest.  God created the earth and everything in it – land, seas, sun, moon, stars, seeds, fish, birds, animals and People – the magnificent completion of God’s universe.  Humans are representatives of God on earth.  Children begin to realize they are part of a big world and have a responsibility to respect and care for it.

We learned about Adam and Eve and the tree of life in the middle of the garden of Eden.  And Adam gave names to all the animals.  God saw everything He had made: it was very, very good. (Gen. 1:31)  That led to learning about Noah and the building of the ark.  Noah followed God’s instructions by gathering pairs of animals and enough food to feed the animals and his family.  After the flood, God made a promise to Noah and every living creature that there never again will be a flood to destroy the whole earth.  The rainbow becomes a reminder of God’s promise to care for all of us.

September finished with the Tower of Babel.  Humans began constructing the tower and were excessively proud and competing with God.  God was not happy, so He diversified the languages and scattered the people across the earth to multiply and fill the earth.

During November, we will learn the stories of Abraham and Sarah, Abraham and Lot, the birth of Isaac and finish the month with Isaac and Rebekah.

Sunday school begins at 9a.m. each week.  Each child is welcome to bring a brother, sister or friend.

Life Recovery Bibles for Frontline Foundations, Inc.

The children of Porter United Methodist Church will be joining with the adults of the congregation for their last quarterly mission focus of 2019. The special loose coin offering the children collect during "Passing the Peace" will help purchase Life Recovery Bibles for those going through the addiction treatment program of Frontline Foundations, located at 1008 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.

As always, thank you for helping the children of our church realize that even though they're kids, they can still help others!

VBS 2019: "BigHeart Farms" a BIG Success!

BigHeart Farms Vacation Bible School was a great experience for all of the "Sprouts" who joined us the first week of June to learn about the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, our theme verse for the week: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Thanks for Making 2018 VBS a Success!

Rolling River Rampage Vacation Bible School was an awesome experience for the 26 who attended in early June.  The church was transformed into an awesome campground surrounding.  The success of Vacation Bible School is due to the many volunteers who gave freely of their time and talents to share the message from Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”  Our young rafters enjoyed their adventure as they experienced the ride of a lifetime with God! Along the river, they discovered that life with God is an adventure full of wonder and surprise, and that they can trust God to be with them through anything. Through music, science experiments, creative crafts, fun recreation, and memorable Bible stories the kids learned that God is always with them as they ride the rapids of amazing grace!   On the last evening, we invited parents to a closing program.  We had a wonderful crowd of parents who stayed afterward for ice cream and brownies.

Camp

Do you know a kid who is ready for a week of fun?  Sign them up for church camp this summer!!  There are camps designed for kids in grades K-12. Children will  participate in action packed adventures including swimming, a climbing wall, archery, a slip ‘n side, and horseback riding.   The camps are not only fun but most importantly, there is a deep focus on Christ through an amazing spiritual program including small groups, outdoor worship, and feature activities.
